The Smoky Hill Museum and The Garage Automotive Museum are partnering to offer a special October First Thursday! Come early for a 1950s car show, hosted by The Garage. The free show is in the north half of the parking lot between the Museum and the United Life Building, from 4:00-5:00 pm. At 5:30 pm, learn about the interstate system at the Museum.
Matthew Miller-Wells, director of education at The Garage, will lead the presentation, “Eisenhower and the Interstate System.” He’ll discuss the reasons for its construction, including American automobility, irregular roads and military readiness, to name just a few. Miller-Wells will share about the challenges of its construction, the early cars that drove over it and the sociopolitical consequences of the system.
Don’t miss the car show from 4:00-5:00 pm, followed by the presentation, 5:30-6:30 pm.
