The Smoky Hill Museum’s archive of historic photographs document Salina, Saline County and the surrounding region’s people, architecture, business, daily life and events. The photograph collection contains approximately 6,800 images spanning from the 1860s to 2010. The collection includes photographic prints, stereoscopic views, glass plate negatives, slides, drawings, postcards, film and family albums.
They document the fascinating history of Salina from its early days as a young frontier town to a unique progressive city. The Museum is dedicated to the long-term storage, preservation and documentation of these photographs. Since 2008, digitization and indexing efforts have been underway.
