Struggle & Resilience: Kansas During the Great Depression

The Great Depression was a turning point for America as the severe financial crisis, along with, drought and dust storms plagued Kansas and other Plains states during the 1930s. Still, life went on. Join Lorraine Madway, the Curator of Special Collections and University Archivist at Wichita State University Libraries, as she discusses the responses of Kansans to the Great Depression. Centered on the WPA Writers’ Project records for Kansas and Farm Security Administration photographs, this presentation will explore Kansans resilience and determination to transform adversity into opportunity.
This free presentation will be offered at the Smoky Hill Museum, Thursday, May 1, 5:30-6:30pm.
