People of the South Wind

Location: Smoky Hill Museum Lobby
Description: Long before the first auto coughed its way across the Plains, the first store opened for business and the first Kansas sheriff pinned on his badge – the People of the South Wind called much of Kansas – home. Join Crystal Douglas as she shares about the Kanza, where they came from, how they got to Kansas and what we know about how they lived. She’ll also touch briefly upon one of the most recent archaeological finds in Kansas. Crystal is a forensic anthropologist as well as the Museum Director and Tribal Preservation Officer for the Kaw Nation. This free presentation is offered at the Smoky Hill Museum, on Thursday, August 3, 5:30-6:30 pm.
