Searching for insight through specialized cards began in ancient Egypt. The ritual of the Tarot involves a reader and a seeker. The seeker shuffles, cuts and selects 13 cards for the reader to arrange and interpret.

A Tarot deck consists of 78 minor and major arcana cards. The 56 minor arcana cards are divided into four suits - wands, cups, swords and pentacles. The major arcana cards or trump cards are Strength, Temperance, Judgment, Tower, Star, Moon, Sun, World, Wheel of Fortune, Chariot, Justice, Magician, High Priestess, Empress, Emperor, Pope, Lovers, Hermit, Fool, Hanged Man, Devil and Death.
